Kindergarten students in Mrs. Weitzel's class at Gudith Elementary School recently learned about groundhogs and how they live and burrow! The students read a story and made their predictions on whether or not the groundhog would see his shadow on February 2! Of course they also had a special groundhog treat, too!

Happy Chinese New Year! Chinese New Year began on January 29 and lasts until February 12. 2025 is the Year of the Snake, which brings the Snake’s wise and intuitive energy. The Snake, symbolizing wisdom and transformation, offers opportunities for personal growth and change. May this year bring prosperity, joy, and growth to all who celebrate! 🎊
Student artists at Erving Elementary School created these masterpieces, which are being displayed in the Board of Education offices. #ChineseNewYear #LunarNewYear #YearOfTheSnake #WhyWBSD

As part of their January project, the Brownstown Middle School Service Squad spent their time preparing signs focusing on promoting the message of INCLUSION! In preparation for the Unified Basketball game against the Woodhaven Police Department, the club members created signs to share encouragement and gratitude.

Students in Mrs. McNamee's third grade at Gudith Elementary School worked together to color and complete a gigantic puzzle of MLK. They researched famous MLK quotes and wrote them on their traced hands that they colored with multicultural colored crayons. The project will be displayed outside the classroom through the month of February during Black History Month as a reminder of the contributions Dr. King made to society.

Take a cue from Sidney, who can usually be found at Bates Elementary School, to snuggle up, grab a good book, and dream of warmer days ahead. Sidney has the right idea, bundled up and enjoying a story! 🐾📖

The Gudith Jr. Goons Robotics Team represented the WBSD at the state competition last weekend. The robot had two perfect runs, scoring the maximum points that it was able to. Although the team did not place in the top ten to advance, one of the project judges commended the team, again, on their teamwork and representing the CORE Values of First Lego League. (Discovery, Innovation, Inclusion, Teamwork, Impact, Fun). The team enjoyed interacting with the other FLL teams and competing in the robot game. Congrats again, Gudith Jr. Goons for representing WBSD well!

All Woodhaven-Brownstown School District schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 21 and Wednesday, January 22, 2025 due to extreme temperatures and wind chill. Please stay safe and warm!
