Last week, Mrs. Smith’s kindergarten students at Wegienka Elementary celebrated the 100th day of school with four days of fun, hands-on learning! Students read stories about the 100th day, added 100 sprinkles to a cupcake, counted 100 gumballs, searched for and colored all the 100s, counted and colored 100 candies in a candy jar, and created “100 Days of Hard Work” crowns 👑.
We are so proud of all the growth, learning, and hard work these kinders have shown since the beginning of the school year!

Students at Woodhaven High School are getting a real-world look at oral surgery in the Dental Science program through the Downriver Career Technical Consortium.
While studying impacted tooth extractions, students are learning that making an incision also means properly closing the site. Under the guidance of instructor Dawn Damron, students practiced suturing techniques using bananas — a safe, hands-on way to build precision, confidence, and essential skills used in dental offices every day.
From infection control to patient care, these future healthcare professionals are gaining experience that prepares them for what’s next. 🍌🪡🦷

Brownstown Middle School 7th grade art students have been busy crafting cake slices out of cardboard, joint compound, and other construction materials. The finished pieces are imaginative, detailed, and far too beautiful to eat. Kudos to Mrs. Kaip for serving up such a creative project.

CTE Month: Meet the Teacher – Tim Prichard
Meet Tim Prichard, our Welding & Fabrication instructor, where students learn far more than how to join metal - they build skills, confidence, and a future.
In this hands-on program, students focus on the technical aspects of welding, learning how to safely and precisely combine materials into a strong, finished product. Through consistent practice, students develop perseverance, grit, problem-solving skills, and pride in their work - qualities that are essential in any career.
What makes the program unique is the freedom and ownership students gain, especially in their second year. Advanced students can choose to refine specific welding techniques, attempt industry-style weld testing, fabricate original designs, or work with the program’s 4’x8’ CNC plasma cutting table, gaining experience with cutting-edge technology used in the field today.
What students gain:
✔ Technical welding and fabrication skills
✔ Independent troubleshooting and critical thinking
✔ Strong work ethic and personal accountability
✔ Experience with industry standards, codes, and testing
Students are exposed to real-world facilities and career pathways, including registered apprenticeships that can lead to high-paying careers - often without student debt. For those who choose to continue their education, grant opportunities and postsecondary training options are also explored.
“Welding has given me the ability to go anywhere and do anything I want in life. Helping students see they can do the same is what makes this work meaningful," Pritchard said.
From learning how to do dangerous work safely and correctly to understanding how skilled trades literally hold our world together, this program prepares students for a modern, high-tech trades workforce - and a future full of opportunity.

In the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District, we are so grateful for our three outstanding SROs:
👮♂️ Raul Villarreal of the Woodhaven Police Department
👮♂️ Joe Mathews of the Brownstown Township Police Department
👮♂️ Bob McNamera of the Brownstown Township Police Department
School Resource Officers are so much more than law enforcement. They are mentors, educators, informal counselors, role models, and trusted adults. They build relationships, create safe learning environments, and help bridge the gap between students and law enforcement in meaningful ways.
Thank you, SRO Villarreal, SRO Mathews, and SRO McNamera, for the care, protection, guidance, and presence you bring to our schools each day. Our students, staff, and families are better because of you. 💙
