Today Woodhaven-Brownstown School District celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities - it serves as a global reminder of the importance of inclusion, accessibility and respect for the rights and dignity of all people with disabilities. This year's focus encourages communities to remove barriers, celebrate strengths, and ensure all students have the chance to thrive in the classroom, community and beyond.
In the WBSD, inclusion is not an initiative - it is our commitment.

Our BMS Service Squad wrapped nearly 40 tissue boxes in winter, birthday, and brightly colored wrapping paper. A few students even wanted to add handmade ornaments to make the gifts extra special. The goal is to offer a small, cheerful surprise to seniors who may not have a visitor during the winter season or on their birthday.
We’re proud to share that all of these decorated and wrapped gifts were delivered to Forest View in Woodhaven to brighten the days of residents in our community. This event was proudly supported by the Woodhaven-Brownstown Education Foundation

🎭🎶 December Performing Arts Spotlight!
All month long, we’re celebrating the talented student performers in the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District!

Stay tuned each week for teacher insights, fun facts, and a behind-the-curtain look at the magic happening across WBSD! 💜✨

WBSD is proud to be a Downriver leader in Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Training. Our own School Psychologist is certified to train other educators and districts, and we regularly host comprehensive safety and threat assessment training sessions right here in WBSD.
This leadership ensures that staff across our district - including our full-time social workers in all eight schools and school counselors at Woodhaven Upper Elementary, Brownstown Middle School, and Woodhaven High School - are equipped to identify, assess, and respond to potential concerns early and effectively.
By sharing our knowledge and best practices with neighboring districts, WBSD continues to strengthen not only our own schools, but the safety network of our entire Downriver community.

We’re grateful for our students, families, and staff who make our district such a special place to learn and grow.
Have a safe and joyful holiday with those you love! 💫

Our dedicated nursing staff goes above and beyond, leading districtwide CPR, First Aid, and Stop the Bleed training. Our registered nurses are American Heart Association Certified Trainers, helping ensure our teams are prepared for any emergency.
Each of our eight schools has a Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) — trained staff members ready to respond to life-threatening situations on campus. All administrators are trained as well, ensuring quick, confident responses when seconds matter.
Every WBSD school is also recognized as a Michigan HEARTSafe School, meeting the highest state standards for cardiac preparedness. 🩺
This includes:
💜 A comprehensive emergency response plan
💜 Staff trained to recognize cardiac distress and perform CPR
💜 An abundance of AEDs throughout each building, regularly inspected and maintained
💜 Periodic cardiac drills to ensure readiness
Thanks to this proactive approach, WBSD continues to set the standard for school safety, preparedness, and care.

Our district collaborates with:
-Brownstown & Woodhaven Police & Fire Departments
-Local first responders who use Crisis Response Security Maps in emergencies
-Expert consultants for Detailed Security Assessments
-District and building teams trained in crisis response, threat assessments, and emergency operations
Through training, drills, and strong partnerships, WBSD ensures our schools are prepared for any situation while maintaining a positive, welcoming learning environment.

WBSD uses advanced internet filtering and student monitoring systems to help ensure students engage in safe, positive, and responsible online activity.
These systems allow staff to intervene quickly when a student may need support - whether it’s identifying a safety concern, a wellness issue, or an inappropriate online search.
District leaders also utilize electronic monitoring software to identify emerging issues across email, online searches, and digital communication - helping us protect students while promoting healthy digital citizenship.
At WBSD, we’re committed to fostering a safe, secure, and supportive environment - on campus and online.

We’re two months into the 2025–26 C.O.R.E. (Central Office Reading Enrichment) program, and our classrooms are buzzing with excitement, curiosity, and the joy of shared stories!
C.O.R.E. is a 13-year WBSD tradition where central office staff, Board of Education members, administrators, counselors, and other district leaders “adopt” a classroom and visit monthly to read aloud. Each visit brings a new book that stays behind for the class library, helping teachers build rich, diverse collections for young readers.
It’s a small moment each month that builds relationships, supports literacy, and strengthens the Warrior community.

Here’s to another year of stories, smiles, and growing readers across the WBSD!
