🎈 Big Ideas Are in the Making at Wegienka Elementary! 🎈
Fourth-grade students took learning on the road Wednesday, Oct. 21, with a visit to the Detroit Parade Company! 🥁
Connecting their trip to the book Balloons Over Broadway, students explored Detroit’s 100 years of parade history and discovered how parade floats are designed and built from start to finish right here in Detroit.
Now, it’s their turn to bring their creativity to life! Students will use what they learned to design their own parade floats and write persuasive pieces convincing others to vote for their designs.
From reading to real-world learning, our students are turning inspiration into BIG ideas! 🎈✨

Students and staff at Woodhaven Upper Elementary celebrated Unity Day on October 21 with a fun-filled Mix It Up Lunch! 🎉
🍬 Students received candy to match them with new lunch tables, where conversation starters helped spark new friendships and connections. With music playing, prizes being handed out and even some dancing in the cafeteria, it was a memorable day filled with smiles, laughter and a whole lot of Warrior spirit!
Thank you to our amazing PTO for donating the candy, our cafeteria staff for their support, and the teachers and staff who joined in the fun!
As school counselor Betsy Kanagawa shared, “We want Unity to be something we do, not something we talk about.” 💜

The Warriors Girls Varsity Swim & Dive Team swam really well against Trenton this past Thursday with just under 30 best times on the season and were competitive throughout the meet. Though we lost the meet (THS 113-WHS 72), it was a great showing by our team. The athletes invited staff members from WHS all the way down to former preschool teachers to our Staff Appreciation Night. The girls appreciated their support!
Friday NIGHT UNDER THE LIGHTS - SENIOR NIGHT for our Cheer, Dance and Football athletes. Toe to leather is at 7 p.m., and we will be honoring our Seniors prior to the start of the game approximately 6:20 p.m. Get there early for the best seat, and cheer on the Warriors!
What was red, white and blue floating in front of Wegienka Elementary today? The RE/MAX hot air balloon of course! Students and staff were treated to an assembly this morning which included questions with the balloon pilot, as well as a demonstration on inflating and deflating the balloon. What a LARGER THAN LIFE lesson for today!

What a beautiful evening for a run! Approximately 130 boys and girls in grades K–5 laced up their running shoes for the WBSD Elementary Cross Country Championship on Monday, October 19, at Hall Road Park!
The free 1.25-mile race gave our young future Warriors an opportunity to challenge themselves, build confidence and discover the joy of running. Before the race, students even warmed up alongside our Woodhaven High School varsity cross country team!
🥇 Congratulations to our top finishers!
🏆 Boys Champion: Bryce Hawkins of Yake Elementary, finishing with a time of 7:38.6!
🏆 Girls Champion: Eleanor Dyba of Bates Elementary, finishing with a time of 8:09.7!
👏 Congratulations to ALL the students who came out to run, give it their best and enjoy an evening of fitness and fun! We're proud of these students for taking on the challenge and showing that big things can start with a single step.

He shared some memorable words of wisdom:

✨ “A pencil becomes a magic wand that can take you anywhere!”
What a wonderful reminder that every book opens the door to a new adventure! 🚪🌎

Students at Brownstown Middle School are lighting up their STEM electricity unit with hands-on learning! Using Snap Circuits, students explored electrical circuits by building their own working radios and discovering how electricity brings technology to life.
Then, they put their knowledge to work in a different way — creating special cards of thanks and appreciation, each featuring a light-up component! These thoughtful creations combined science, creativity and kindness to bring a little extra light to others.
At BMS, learning goes beyond the classroom — and sometimes, it even shines! 💜⚡ #WhyWBSD #STEM #BMS
