📢 Reminder, Warriors!

Our district is proud to partner with the Woodhaven Kiwanis Club for the Annual An Apple for Ryan food drive — honoring the legacy of Ryan Sergent by helping families in need across the Downriver community. 🥫💜

All WBSD schools — Bates, Erving, Gudith, Wegienka, Yake, Woodhaven Upper Elementary, Brownstown Middle, and Woodhaven High — are collecting non-perishable, kid-friendly foods.

As pantry demand continues to rise, every donation makes a difference. Let’s show the Warrior Way by giving back! 💪

🧬 Hands-on Science at BMS! 🐸
Eighth grade students in Ms. Schefsky and Mrs. Banker’s science classes recently participated in a frog dissection lab. Through this hands-on activity, students explored the different body systems of a frog and discovered how many of them closely relate to those found in humans.

A special shoutout to first-year teacher Ms. Schefsky for diving right in and engaging her students in this unique learning opportunity! What an amazing way to spark curiosity and make science come alive. 🔬💜

🌟 Student Spotlight! 🌟

Evelyn Nichols, a 4th grader at Bates Elementary, was recognized at last night's WBSD Board of Education meeting for going above and beyond while riding the bus with a substitute driver. As the designated Safety, Evelyn took full charge of the seating process - guiding each student row by row to ensure everyone was properly seated.

Her leadership, maturity, and calm direction made the ride smoother and safer for everyone on board. 👏

Now that’s a student who truly knows the Warrior Way - showing responsibility, respect, and pride wherever she goes! 💜💛

🐟👀 Our 3rd graders in Mrs. Michling’s class at Bates Elementary became animal investigators this week! Students explored why certain animals live in groups and discovered something fascinating — when more “fish” were added to the tub, the “predator” had a much tougher time catching them. A hands-on lesson in survival and teamwork! 💡✨ #WBSD #HandsOnLearning

🪶✨ At Woodhaven Upper Elementary School, 5th graders in Mrs. Krappitz’s and Mr. Kozlo’s classes have been diving into the culture of Native American tribes in the Pacific Northwest Region.

As part of their learning, students explored the meanings and purposes of totem poles. Each student selected 5 animals out of 14 that best represented them, then designed and colored their own to create unique totem poles.

The results were creative, personal, and a wonderful way to connect learning with self-expression! 💜
