The Woodhaven-Brownstown School Board met on March 18 to review applicants for the superintendent position. The Board felt the candidate pool was excellent with 19 applicants and determined to interview five candidates for the position. The Board is assisted in the search process by the Michigan Association of School Boards Executive Search Team.
The interviews will be held beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday March 21 at the Administrative Center. The public is encouraged to attend the interviews. A second round of interviews is planned for March 24.
Candidates and the times they will be interviewed are as follows:
Saturday March 21
9:00 a.m., Melanie Depray Learst, M.A., Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability for Westwood Community Schools since 2021. Previously, she was principal at Robichaud High School for six years. She also worked for Ypsilanti as a science teacher and interim principal for ten years.
10:00 a.m., Matthew Salah, M.A., Executive Director of Special Services for Woodhaven-Brownstown since 2011. Previously, he was building principal for one year and assistant principal for nine years at Patrick Henry Middle School. He also served as a special education teacher for five years at Woodhaven High School.
11:00 a.m., Phillip Camilleri, M.A., Middle School principal for Melvindale Northern Allen Park since 2022. Previously, he was assistant principal in the same school for fifteen years. He also was a teacher for Melvindale High School for nine years. He started his career as a disciplinary aide for MelNAP for four years.
12:30 p.m., Joshua Satterfield, M.A., Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum for Woodhaven-Brownstown since 2024. Previously, he was Director of Curriculum for two years and Director of Technology and Instructional Integration for two years. He also served as a 5th grade teacher and a coach for seven years.
1:30 p.m., Angela Jefferson, Ed.D., assistant superintendent for Wayne Westland since 2025. Previously, she was Deputy Superintendent for Northview Schools in Grand Rapids for two years. She also was an elementary principal for Thornapple Kellogg Schools for twelve years. She taught social studies at TK High School for 12 years.
The Board expects to appoint a new superintendent to begin July 1, 2026.
