The Woodhaven-Brownstown School Board narrowed the field to two candidates after interviewing five candidates for the superintendent position. The two finalists are Matthew Salah, Executive Director of Special Services for Woodhaven-Brownstown and Angela Jefferson, Ed.D., Asst. Superintendent for Wayne-Westland Community Schools.

The initial candidate interviews were held on Saturday, March 21. Board members asked the candidates questions regarding vision for the school district, communication, management and decision-making styles, budget, and many others. Candidates offered opening and closing statements. There were several staff and community members present, and they offered feedback on the candidates.

The second round of interviews will be held on Tuesday, March 24, at the Administrative & Board of Education Offices. There will be an open house at 3:30 p.m. at Woodhaven Upper Elementary School (LGI Room – Rm. 110) for staff and community members to meet the candidates. Interviews will then begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Board Room. The public is encouraged to attend.

5:30 p.m., Matthew Salah, M.A., Executive Director of Special Services for Woodhaven-Brownstown since 2024. Previously, he was Director of Special Services for Woodhaven-Brownstown 2020-2024. He was also a building principal for one year and assistant principal for nine years at Patrick Henry Middle School. He also served as a special education teacher for five years at Woodhaven High School.

6:45 p.m., Angela Jefferson, Ed.D., Asst. Superintendent for Wayne-Westland Community Schools since 2025. Previously, she was Deputy Superintendent for Northview Schools in Grand Rapids for two years. She also was an elementary principal for Thornapple Kellogg Schools for 12 years. She taught social studies at TK High School for 12 years.

The Board expects to appoint a new superintendent to begin July 1, 2026.
