students in play on stage

Thirty plays. Sixty minutes. And 38 Students. Yes, you read that right!

Let those numbers sit for a minute. Or 60.

The Woodhaven Theatre Company kicked off its fall season Wednesday night with Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, an experimental theatre production presented by the Woodhaven High School Play Production class that was anything but ordinary!

Thirty plays. Sixty minutes. Thirty-eight student artists. And a stopwatch keeping everyone on track.

But here's the twist: the audience got to call the shots! Play numbers hung on a clothesline were selected by audience members in completely random order, determining which of the 30 short plays the students would perform next. And just when the audience thought they could sit back and watch, there were quick opportunities to join in on the action, too!

The result? A fun, fast-paced, slightly chaotic theatrical experience filled with unexpected moments, audience participation and plenty of laughter.

Teacher Michael Clemons described the production as an opportunity for students to explore experimental theatre with plenty of creative freedom. As he put it, this would be “controlled chaos, with an extra side of chaos.”

Mission accomplished!

With quick changes, spontaneous audience involvement and 30 plays packed into one hour, these 38 talented students from the WHS Play Production class brought energy, creativity and plenty of personality to the stage.

Thirty plays in 60 minutes is no small feat — but this talented group made it look like a whole lot of fun!

Congratulations to the Woodhaven Theatre Company on an entertaining and laughter-filled opening to the fall season. We can't wait to see what's next!
