Our BMS Student Council recently hosted a donation week to support local animal shelters — and our students and staff responded with incredible generosity!
Thanks to our school community, we were able to deliver 3–4 large boxes of donated items to each shelter, helping provide much-needed supplies for animals in their care.
On Wednesday (4/15), Student Council members personally dropped off donations to shelters in Taylor, Romulus, Lincoln Park, Brownstown, Woodhaven-Trenton, and Flat Rock. While there, students even had the opportunity to spend time with some of the animals who will directly benefit from these contributions.
We are so proud of our students for showing leadership, compassion, and a true commitment to serving others. This is the Warrior Way in action!

Our Goonies Robotics Camp continues to ignite creativity, teamwork, and hands-on engineering in young students! Led by advisors Desiderio Villalobos and Chris Sims, campers built and programmed robots to complete fun challenges — all while being mentored by our current Goonies team members. From designing to competing, this camp gives students a real taste of what robotics is all about and inspires the next generation of innovators.

Ever wonder why the Moon looks like a sliver one night and a giant glowing pizza the next? 🍕 Our 8th graders dived into the Earth-Moon-Sun System recently to answer our Essential Question: Why does the moon seem to change shape?
To figure it out, the students got a little "tasty" with science! Students used Oreo cookies to create edible models of the lunar cycle, scraping away the cream to represent how the sun’s light reflects off the Moon as it orbits Earth.
📓 Lesson Highlights:
The Model: Mapping the moon’s motion around Earth.
The "Why": Understanding that the Moon doesn't actually change shape - just our view of the illuminated half!
The Prediction: Using cyclic patterns to determine what the Moon will look like next.
Bonus: They even touched on how the perfect alignment leads to spectacular eclipses! 🌑☀️
It turns out that mastering the phases of the Moon is much easier when you can eat the "Waxing Crescent" afterwards! Great job, Mrs. Banker’s scientists! 🚀✨

In the Woodhaven-Brownstown School District, we are so grateful for our three outstanding SROs:
👮♂️ Raul Villarreal of the Woodhaven Police Department
👮♂️ Joe Mathews of the Brownstown Township Police Department
👮♂️ Bob McNamera of the Brownstown Township Police Department
School Resource Officers are so much more than law enforcement. They are mentors, educators, informal counselors, role models, and trusted adults. They build relationships, create safe learning environments, and help bridge the gap between students and law enforcement in meaningful ways.
Thank you, SRO Villarreal, SRO Mathews, and SRO McNamera, for the care, protection, guidance, and presence you bring to our schools each day. Our students, staff, and families are better because of you. 💙

Through 7th Grade Exploratory Technology and 8th Grade Career Tech, taught by James (Jim) Walrad, students are learning that technology is more than entertainment—it’s a powerful tool for their future.
From digital citizenship and responsible social media use to early career exploration in fields like cybersecurity, business, and entrepreneurship, these classes help students build awareness, confidence, and direction. Project-based learning encourages creativity, empathy, and problem-solving, while real conversations about online behavior and digital footprints prepare students for what’s ahead.
“Helping students realize they can start preparing for their careers right now is incredibly rewarding,” Walrad shared. “Their creativity and ideas are amazing.”
By empowering students early, these courses ensure they leave middle school informed, inspired, and ready to make thoughtful choices about their future.
