We are incredibly proud to celebrate Wegienka Elementary Principal Michelle Briegel, who has been named the MEMSPA Region 1 Principal of the Year!
Michelle was surprised with the honor in front of Wegienka students and staff by Cynthia Nickel, Ed.S., Principal of Miller Elementary in Canton and MEMSPA President, and Crystal Eskin, Principal of Jefferson Elementary in Wyandotte and MEMSPA Region 1 President.
The award recognizes outstanding principals whose leadership, commitment to students and staff, service to their communities, and contributions to the education profession are recognized by their peers and communities.
Michelle was nominated by WBSD Superintendent Matthew Salah, who described her as a leader who puts people first and creates a school culture where students, staff and families feel seen, heard and valued.
“She shows up. She is visible. She builds relationships. She celebrates successes, supports people through challenges, and never loses sight of the fact that education is ultimately about the students we serve.”
Michelle says the recognition is a reflection of the entire Wegienka community:
“This award is truly a reflection of the amazing students, staff, and families I have the privilege of working with every day.”
After the surprise presentation, the Wegienka community celebrated together with cake in the cafeteria, joined by students, staff and members of Michelle’s family. 💜
