What started as a massive creative project in the halls of Wegienka Elementary is now greeting visitors at the Board of Education office!
These portraits of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and John Lewis represent more than just paint on canvas - they are a "living gallery" built by our students. Under the guidance of art teacher Mrs. Leigh Ann Greene, Wegienka Wildcats of all grade levels added their own brushstrokes to these icons, turning a history lesson into a hands-on legacy.
"I was thrilled that the students really took the lead in sharing their stories," says Mrs. Greene.
Principal Michelle Briegel notes that these incredible portraits serve as an inspiring way to honor Black History Month, with plans to grow the collection every year.
