In honor of Fire Prevention Month, the BMS Service Squad wanted to show appreciation for our first responders. They put together small treat bags with thank-you notes, which were delivered to the Woodhaven and Brownstown Fire and Police Departments, all of whom support BMS. Thanks to a suggestion from students who live in Flat Rock, we even had enough to thank the Flat Rock Police!

Bates Elementary bilingual team was a concept designed by EL Teacher Maryna Hedeen where students who are multilingual assist in the communication needs of newcomers and other students learning English and starting school. Nicole and Lucia are our first members of the Bates Bilingual Team and have gone above and beyond in helping to make school a welcoming learning environment! We are so proud of their hard work.

Students at Brownstown Middle School have been studying the creation of the U.S. Constitution. Some have been preparing as Federalists, who support its ratification, while others have been honing their arguments as Anti-Federalists, who believe the Constitution grants too much power to the federal government. Last week, each class engaged in a passionate debate on whether to ratify the Constitution, with one Federalist and one Anti-Federalist being crowned debate champions.
