"Oh, the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!"
We know students love "snow days," but did you ever wonder how the decision is made? Listen to the new episode of the Warrior Way Podcast HERE - Weathering the Storm: Inside WBSD’s School Closure Process to learn more. https://rss.com/podcasts/thewarriorway/1782681

Good morning Bates Families,
Due to a police situation in the neighborhood across the street from Bates Elementary School in collaboration with our partners in the Woodhaven Police Department and out of an abundance of caution a decision was made to put the building in a lock-in procedure. This type of school safety procedure means that all classroom activities and learning is continuing as normal but no students are allowed outside of the building. Portions of Gudith road were blocked during this incident.
The safety and security of our students and staff is our number one priority and we will always communicate with our families the most current and up to date information.

Happy Thanksgiving to our WBSD Families!

The WBSD has a great safety system, Zonar, for our bus transportation system that can be a great tool to be used by parents.
- Watch a demo video for the new Zonar MyView app here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IPVdnZPnSs
- Download the Zonar MyView app in your device’s app store.
WBSD’s Code is: WOO9929 (This is letters “W” and “OO” not numbers)
- Login to your Parent Connect and find your child’s bus route information under the Transportation tab.
If you would like to use the additional feature, the Z-Pass, you may request one by scanning the QR code or filling out this document - https://tinyurl.com/ydkj6s2p
For more information, check out your school's weekly principal communication for more on Zonar.

Is your child interested in playing basketball? Please see the flyer...

Bates Elementary bilingual team was a concept designed by EL Teacher Maryna Hedeen where students who are multilingual assist in the communication needs of newcomers and other students learning English and starting school.
Nicole and Lucia are our first members of the Bates Bilingual Team and have gone above and beyond in helping to make school a welcoming learning environment! We are so proud of their hard work.

Check out the amazing things happening at Bates Elementary School next week for Kindness week October 21-25, 2025 - One Kind Word is the theme with different activities each day of the week.
