TOTE / Early On Program
Teach Our Tots Early (TOTE) is an early intervention program for children from birth to age 3 who have developmental delays. As part of Early On Wayne County, TOTE provides free special education services to eligible families.
Children are referred by parents, doctors, or agencies when developmental concerns arise. An early intervention team evaluates each child to determine eligibility under Michigan’s special education rules. If eligible, a Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) completes a report, and an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) is created to set personalized goals and begin services.
TOTE services children in the following Downriver/Dearborn districts:
Allen Park, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Ecorse, Flat Rock, Gibraltar, Grosse Ile, Huron, Lincoln Park, Melvindale, Riverview, Southgate, Taylor, Trenton, River Rouge, Woodhaven-Brownstown, and Wyandotte.
Services include:
Weekly home visits by early intervention teacher consultants
Weekly center-based group sessions
Consultative support from speech, physical, and occupational therapists
Optional activities such as music classes, playgroups, and sensory/motor groups
Monthly family events and meet ups
Our team - consisting of teachers, therapists, a nurse, psychologist, and social worker - uses a coaching model to support families in using everyday routines to help their child grow and learn.
There is no cost for eligible families. Program funding is provided through the Wayne County Act 18 Special Education Millage.
