Special Services Overview

Our district serves approximately 950 eligible special education students, providing a wide range of services including:

• Academic and psychological assessments

• Speech and language therapy

• Teacher and behavioral consultation

• Social work and nursing services

• Academic support via collaborative teaching

• Resource room and self-contained classroom instruction

• Placement in specialized out-of-district programs

A dedicated team of over 86 certified professionals and 28 paraprofessionals delivers these services.

Eligibility Process

Eligibility for special education is determined through a Child Study Team (CST) process at the building level. This includes:

1. Review of classroom performance and prior interventions

2. Parental involvement in planning and decision-making

3. Further testing, if needed, to assess eligibility under state and federal guidelines

4. Development of an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) for students found eligible
